Recognizing that readers turn to its publications to learn about local concerns and issues, Brown created an Editorial Excellence Committee in 1989 to encourage better news and editorial content. Training is an important part of our Editorial Excellence program; therefore, we invite leaders in journalism outside of the company to talk with our news staffs. Brown has a wide geographical footprint in Ohio and these meetings serve as a forum to discuss and implement best practices throughout the company. In addition, the Committee is constantly looking for ways to utilize technology to deliver relevant and timely stories to our readers. Since 1994, the Committee has recognized various editorial staffs at Brown newspapers with over 1,000 awards. Brown's newspapers have also been recognized outside the Company by the Associated Press (including a number of General Excellence awards), Ohio Newspaper Association (ONA), Hooper Awards, and various community awards.
